The Minister of the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, informed Parliament that June 2026 saw the highest amount of rainfall ever recorded in Ghana, resulting in casualties and displacing nearly 39,000 individuals in the Greater Accra Region.
During a parliamentary session on Tuesday, June 30, 2026, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak stated that the government had dispatched military engineers to assist in flood response operations and had authorized the release of funds from the emergency fund for relief efforts and flood prevention measures.

The minister highlighted that Ghana had received 593.2 millimeters of rainfall in June 2026, surpassing the previous records set in 2002 and 2015. He mentioned that the rainfall on June 29, 2026, was the fourth-highest daily amount since 1995.
He added that the floods affected 18 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies in the Greater Accra Region, displacing thousands and causing casualties.
Furthermore, the minister mentioned that additional casualties and displacements were reported in the Central Region and the Volta Region, as well as in Sefwi Wiawso in the Western North Region.
Regarding financial support, the President had initially announced GH¢300 million for relief efforts, but Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak clarified in Parliament that the actual amount authorized was GH¢350 million from the contingency fund. He detailed how the funds would be allocated for relief items and flood control measures.
The minister also informed Parliament about the deployment of the Ghana Armed Forces’ 48 Engineers Regiment to expedite clearance operations without delays from procurement processes, with the approval of the Acting Defence Minister.
