A mobile money vendor in Lashibi, Greater Accra Region, fought back against two armed robbers who attacked him, managing to get back all GH¢140,000 that was stolen. He shot and killed one of the robbers during a shootout. The robbery happened on Friday, July 3, 2026. The robbers, on a motorbike, stopped the vendor’s car. Police think it was a planned robbery.
The attackers shot at the vendor’s car, hitting the rear tire and windshield before grabbing the bag of money.But things changed when the vendor shot back as the robbers tried to get away.
The Accra Regional Police Command, in a statement from Chief Superintendent Juliana Obeng, said the vendor’s reaction was key.

dor fired back as the robbers fled, killing one of them right there.The other robber got away, but he dropped the stolen cash while running. Police later found all GH¢140,000, untouched. The vendor was not hurt in the incident.
When investigators searched the dead robber, they found weapons, bullets, and other items that might be connected to the robbery.
The police said they found an AK-47 rifle, two loaded magazines with 55 bullets, another 11 bullets, GH¢3,000 cash, a Samsung phone, and an ID card for Innocent Elemuwa Akachukeu, who is 46.
Investigators also found five shell casings from an AK-47 and two from a pistol at the scene.

The body of the deceased suspect has been taken to the Police Hospital morgue for safekeeping, identification, and an autopsy.
The Accra Regional Police Command has taken over the investigation.
