The Ministry of the Interior in southern Ghana has dispatched emergency response teams to areas affected by flooding after heavy rains disrupted activities on Monday morning, as reported by Ghana Web News.
Various services including the Ghana Police Service, Ghana National Fire Service, Ghana Armed Forces, National Disaster Management Organization, and other emergency units have been activated to oversee the situation, help affected individuals, control traffic, and conduct rescue missions if needed.
As a preventive safety measure to safeguard lives and property in the face of ongoing flooding, residents in flood-prone regions are advised to relocate to higher ground where safe and notify security agencies or emergency services in case of emergencies.
It is emphasized by the Ministry to cooperate with security and emergency personnel and rely on official sources for information and updates. For emergency assistance, individuals should reach out to the appropriate emergency services.
Additionally, a cautionary advisory is in place for people to exercise extreme care and stay in secure locations post the rainfall.
To ensure safety, the public is advised to remain in their current locations until conditions improve, with those at home encouraged to stay put and those at work or safe areas advised to stay there until it’s safe to travel. Unnecessary movement should be avoided.
Motorists and pedestrians are strongly warned against driving or walking through flooded roads, bridges, or waterways due to the rapid rise of floodwaters, which can be perilous to life and property.
As a safety measure, members of the public are urged to be cautious following heavy rains and flooding in various parts of the country. It is recommended to stay where you are until conditions improve, avoid unnecessary movements, and not attempt to cross flooded areas.
