BREAKING >Police foil alleged plot to sell newborn for GH¢20,000 at Gbane mining community in Talensi

Police have thwarted an alleged scheme to trade a newborn baby for GH¢20,000 at the Gbane mining community in Talensi. Three individuals, Peace Agbede, Favour Sunday Udo, and Faith Levy, have been apprehended by law enforcement in the Upper East Region for purportedly engaging in human trafficking. The trio is accused of coercing a young Nigerian woman into prostitution at the mining site and attempting to sell her infant for the said amount.

According to the Ghana Police Service, initial inquiries revealed that Agbede lured the victim from Nigeria with promises of opportunities in the Ghanaian film industry. However, upon her arrival, she was taken to the Gbane-Tongo mining area where she was forced into the illicit trade and compelled to hand over a daily sum of GH¢400 to her handler from her earnings.

After the victim gave birth on June 26, 2026, Agbede and Udo purportedly approached her, urging her to sell the baby to a potential buyer for GH¢20,000. The police discovered incriminating evidence during a search of Agbede’s quarters, including sales records under various names and a stash of 265 unused condoms.

The operation resulted in the liberation of four other young female victims, aged between 18 and 20, and the authorities have confirmed that investigations are ongoing with plans to prosecute the suspects in court.
