Long lines of “aboboyaa,” or tricycles loaded with trash, have
been accumulating in the McCarthy Hills neighborhood of Accra along the N1 highway, especially in the area from Sakaman junction via Mallam junction to the Tetegu junction area.
They had been wandering along a muddy access road close to the Weija-Gbawe Municipality’s McCarthy Hills dumping facility.
The route leading to the disposal site has been congested as a result of these tricycles carrying rubbish from various districts of Accra.
The number of tricycles stuck in traffic and parked beside the road has been rising daily since the June rains became more intense.
