Institutes _Directorates _Centres _ University of Education, Winneba<\/a><\/p>\n

The University of Education, Winneba (UEW) is structured into a broad network of faculties, schools, centres, and institutes designed to advance its core mandate of training professional educators and producing skilled graduates to support Ghana\u2019s educational, social, scientific, and economic development. Through these academic units, the University delivers specialised teaching, research, and community service across diverse disciplines.<\/p>\n

At the heart of UEW\u2019s academic structure is the Faculty of Social Sciences Education<\/strong>, which provides rigorous training in the social sciences with a strong pedagogical foundation. The faculty comprises the Department of Economics Education<\/strong>, Department of Geography Education<\/strong>, Department of History Education<\/strong>, Department of Political Science Education<\/strong>, and the Department of Social Studies Education<\/strong>. Complementing these departments are the Centre for African Studies<\/strong>, which promotes research and scholarship on African histories, cultures, and development, and the Centre for Conflict, Human Rights and Peace Studies<\/strong>, which focuses on peacebuilding, democratic governance, and human rights education.<\/p>\n

The Faculty of Science Education<\/strong> is dedicated to preparing science educators and professionals equipped with theoretical knowledge and practical skills. It includes the Department of Agricultural Science Education and Environmental Science<\/strong>, Department of Biology Education<\/strong>, Department of Chemistry Education<\/strong>, Department of Environmental Science Education<\/strong>, Department of Information and Communication Technology<\/strong>, Department of Integrated Science Education<\/strong>, Department of Mathematics Education<\/strong>, and the Department of Physics Education<\/strong>. These departments play a critical role in strengthening science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education in Ghana.<\/p>\n

UEW\u2019s School of Business<\/strong> provides training in business and management disciplines that support effective leadership and entrepreneurship. The school is made up of the Department of Accounting<\/strong>, Department of Applied Finance and Policy Management<\/strong>, Department of Management Sciences<\/strong>, Department of Marketing and Entrepreneurship<\/strong>, and the Department of Procurement and Supply Chain Management<\/strong>. These departments equip students with analytical, managerial, and entrepreneurial competencies relevant to both the public and private sectors.<\/p>\n

The Faculty of Ghanaian Languages Education<\/strong> is central to the University\u2019s mission of preserving and promoting indigenous languages and cultures. It comprises the Department of Akan-Nzema Education<\/strong>, Department of Ewe Education<\/strong>, Department of Ga-Dangme Education<\/strong>, and the Department of Gur-Gonja Education<\/strong>. Through teaching and research, the faculty contributes significantly to cultural preservation, language policy development, and mother-tongue education in Ghana.<\/p>\n

UEW also hosts the Faculty of Foreign Languages Education<\/strong>, which prepares students for multilingual communication and global engagement. This faculty includes the Department of Applied Linguistics<\/strong>, Department of English Education<\/strong>, and the Department of French Education<\/strong>, all of which emphasise language proficiency, pedagogy, and cross-cultural communication.<\/p>\n

The School of Creative Arts<\/strong> nurtures creativity, cultural expression, and artistic innovation. Its departments include Art Education<\/strong>, Graphic Design<\/strong>, Music Education<\/strong>, Textiles and Fashion Education<\/strong>, and Theatre Arts<\/strong>. These departments combine theory and practice to produce graduates capable of contributing to the creative industries, education sector, and cultural economy.<\/p>\n

Professional teacher development is further strengthened by the Institute for Teacher Education and Continuing Professional Development (ITECPD)<\/strong>. The institute comprises the Department of Assessment and Quality Assurance<\/strong>, Department of Continuing Professional Development<\/strong>, and the Department of Internship and Supported Teaching in Schools<\/strong>, which collectively support teacher training, supervision, and lifelong professional growth.<\/p>\n

The School of Education and Life-Long Learning<\/strong> focuses on foundational and administrative aspects of education. It includes the Department of Basic Education<\/strong>, Department of Educational Foundations<\/strong>, and the Department of Educational Management and Administration Education<\/strong>, providing leadership training and research in education policy and administration.<\/p>\n

UEW\u2019s commitment to health and wellbeing is reflected in the Faculty of Health, Allied Sciences and Home Economics Education<\/strong>. This faculty consists of the Department of Clothing and Textiles Education<\/strong>, Department of Environmental Health and Sanitation Education<\/strong>, Department of Family Life Management Education<\/strong>, Department of Food and Nutrition Education<\/strong>, Department of Health Administration Education<\/strong>, Department of Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Sports<\/strong>, and the Department of Integrated Home Economics Education<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Communication and media training are provided through the School of Communication and Media Studies<\/strong>, which houses the Department of Communication Instruction<\/strong>, Department of Development Communication<\/strong>, Department of Journalism and Media Studies<\/strong>, and the Department of Strategic Communication<\/strong>. These departments prepare graduates for careers in media, public relations, development communication, and education.<\/p>\n

Finally, the Faculty of Applied Behavioural Sciences in Education<\/strong> addresses human development and learning needs. It comprises the Department of Counselling Psychology<\/strong>, Department of Early Childhood Education<\/strong>, and the Department of Special Education<\/strong>, all of which focus on inclusive education, mental health, and learner support services.<\/p>\n

Together, these faculties, schools, centres, and institutes reflect UEW\u2019s comprehensive academic structure and its enduring commitment to educational excellence, research, cultural preservation, and national development.<\/p>\n
